2023 NFL Draft: Los Angeles Rams select Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in fourth round
The Los Angeles Rams selected Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett with the 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He will be the backup to Matthew Stafford, who was the only quarterback on the Rams roster as of Saturday. Bennett is the first quarterback drafted by the Rams since Jared Goff was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in 2016.
Bennett spoke to the media after being drafted by the Rams. He said he looks forward to working with head coach Sean McVay.

“I don’t know much, but I hear he’s a genius,” Bennett said.
Coach McVay praised Bennett’s skills and highlighted that he was a natural thrower of the football.
“People assume this guy is a really good football player because of the background and the way he became the starter at Georgia is a little unorthodox and it wasn’t a five-star route, but I think at least it’s Athleticism (and) ability to make off schedule. He’s a natural thrower of the football, he can play with great anticipation, throws the ball with accuracy (and) plays within time,” McVay said.
While at Georgia, Bennett helped them win back-to-back national championships the last two seasons. He finished his Georgia career with a 29–3 record as the starting quarterback, the second best record in SEC history for a quarterback with at least 30 starts.
Rams director of draft management JW Jordan explained the reason behind selecting Bennett.
“What’s unique about him, it was pleasantly unique. Like I said, like many times you look at a guy who’s on a great team and he has all these great players, and you look at him. and you realize he’s just handing the ball. With him, what’s unique is he’s a winner, and that was who he was – not the main reason, but, you know, one of them. He led them He did, he legitimately led them to those national championships. He just wasn’t there as part of the team, and that’s what you want, that’s what you want,” Jordan said.
Meanwhile, Bennett said he was looking forward to learning from senior teammate Stafford, who also played college football at Georgia.
“She’s obviously extremely smart,” Bennett said. “He’s one of the most talented quarterbacks that’s ever played the game. And he’s tough as nails and all his teammates always adore him. And so I’m excited to go out there, keep calm, take notes and learn, Bennett said.
