Anirban Lahiri moves to Tied-26th at LIV Golf Singapore
Anirban Lahiri will be hoping for another impressive Sunday charge to end a tough three-week stretch of golf when he plays in the final round at LIV Golf Singapore.
The Indian ace, who shot an eight-under 64 in less than a fortnight to finish second at the International Series Vietnam, followed it up with a final round of seven-under 65 at the LIV Golf Adelaide followed by a four-under 67 in the second round. In Adelaide, champion American Taylor Gooch carded a six-under par 65 to stay on top of the leaderboard for the fifth consecutive round. However, he was caught on 13-under par by Spain’s Sergio Garcia (64), who played his second consecutive bogey-free round.
Lahiri made late double bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes in the opening round on Friday. On Saturday, he managed to birdie the fifth, but a second lay-up shot into the water caused another shot to fall on the seventh.
“It was definitely a lot better and more like what I’ve been doing lately. There were a lot of mental errors yesterday. Still, a shot or two fell loose here and there,” said Lahiri, who was last week’s LIV Golf came second in Adelaide.
“That seventh hole cost me dearly this week. So, I’ll try and revise on that tomorrow. The good thing is I’m starting on the fifth hole in the final round, which means I’ll be playing the three hardest holes on the first course. It can only get better from there.
The past two weekends have been encouraging for Lahiri, who capped off with a birdie with a solid seven-iron shot into the wind from 182 yards, followed by a well-read putt from 12 feet.
“It’s been a good few Saturdays and Sundays and hopefully I can continue this trend,” said the world number 95. “I’m not really expecting anything. I’m just expecting myself to stick to my process and stick to the systems that I’ve worked so hard to put in place with my team.
“A lot of the results and a lot of the good times that you are seeing are by-products of that. So just keep doing it more and keep trusting him and keep empowering him and let things happen.
