Jaydev Unadkat of Lucknow Super Giants suffered a shoulder injury on Sunday, IPL broadcasters through a footage of the LSG’s practice session at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow ahead of their IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore disclosed the news. It is shown in the video that while practicing at the nets, Unadkat slipped and injured his shoulder.

Unadkat was immediately helped with ice packs by the team physio, although the LSG is yet to issue an official statement on the injury and its extent.

If Unadkat is ruled out of the WTC final, it will definitely hurt India’s plans as another fast bowler Umesh Yadav is also an injury concern. He missed the last match of Kolkata Knight Riders due to an injury. The rest of the fast bowling unit remains – Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Meanwhile, according to a report, there are two pacers in India’s five-member stand-by list for the WTC final, which includes Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar and hence one of them could be slotted.

This is the second time that India will be aiming for the WTC trophy. In 2021, in the inaugural edition of the tournament, India lost to New Zealand by eight wickets in the final at Lord’s. Meanwhile, Australia reached their first final at the WTC in the 2021/2023 cycle.
