Brij Bhushan announces bid for Lok Sabha polls, says ‘Kaiserganj se ladunga, ladunga, ladunga’
Wrestling Federation of India (EFI)’s outgoing chief and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan has announced his bid to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaiserganj constituency. The announcement comes amid ongoing investigation into alleged sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan on women wrestlers. Several wrestlers have been protesting demanding the arrest of the BJP MP.
Brij Bhushan on Sunday held a political rally in his first public appearance since the probe was launched in April. While addressing a rally at Gonda Uttar Pradesh, Bhushan told the people who had gathered that he would continue to implement policies introduced by Modi and was committed to serving the people.
Brij Bhushan told reporters that in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, Bhartiya Janta Party would win the elections and every seat in Uttar Pradesh would be won by the saffron party. On being asked about Bhushan’s plan to contest the elections, the BJP MP replied to loud cheers, “Kaiserganj se chunav aldunga, ladunga, ladunga ( Will contest election from Kaiserganj)
The rally was organised under BJP’s Mahasampark Abhiyan for the 2024 elections.
Brij Bhushan refused to comment on the ongoing probe in suspected sexual harassment on female athletes and said, “I will not comment on the allegations. I am waiting for the court order on this case,” Singh told reporters at the Sunday gathering near his political constituency in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
Olympic medal winning wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat, and Bajranj Punia has been leading a protest against the suspected sexual harassment by BJP MP Brij Bhushan on female athletes.
Clad in a saffron robe and turban typically worn by Hindu monks, and adorning a saffron scarf with Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s face on it, Brij Bhushan was applauded by the attendees of the rally with chants of “long live our lawmaker” and “we stand with you”, according to the report.
Meanwhile, two top women wrestlers who have accused Singh of touching their breast and sliding his hand to the stomach — on the pretext of checking their breathing — have been asked by the Delhi Police to provide photos, audio and video as evidence for their allegations, Indian Express reported.
Singh, a six-term member of parliament, also runs about 50 private educational centres in and around his political constituency. He has been the president of the Wrestling Federation of India for nearly a decade.
The protesting wrestlers agreed to pause it until 15 June. This is the date by which Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur declared, a chargesheet will be filed by the Delhi Police. The announcement was made after Thakur held a six-hour long discussion with the protesting athletes.
