Garg to continue, Shaw to bench again: DC’s probable XI vs GT in IPL 2023 | Cricket

Bottom of the table, Delhi Capitals (DC) will take on defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 2. Their playoff hopes are all but gone. Leave alone the playoffs, they will need to win back to back to finish at the bottom of the table.

IPL 2023: Priyam Garg during the training session of Delhi Capitals.

David Warner’s men were up and were slowly building momentum before the loss to SRH. Batting is still a major weakness for DC but their bowlers have improved in the last few matches and ensured some wins for them. Less than a week ago DC and SRH locked horns in Hyderabad with DC coming out on top. But in the reverse fixture in Delhi, the DC bowlers were hit all over the park as SRH posted 197/6. Phil Salt, Mitch Marsh and Axar Patel did their best for DC but the other batsmen did not contribute enough and DC fell short of the target by 9 runs, suffering their sixth loss in eight matches this season.

So far this season, DC have lost to LSG, GT, RR, MI and RCB. They got their first win of the season against KKR in Delhi after five consecutive losses. Which was followed by the double header against SRH.

The batting from the Capital side is still a matter of concern. DC have lost wickets in clumps in all their games so far and their middle-order has been extremely fragile and vulnerable throughout the season. This was evident once again in the loss to SRH as DC slumped from 112/1 to 148/6.

Warner is one of the leading run-scorers this season with 306 runs with four fifties, but his strike rate of 119 is a cause for concern. He has been struggling to score quick runs and the team losing wickets in droves around him hasn’t helped his cause.

Prithvi Shaw has had a very poor season so far. He has scored only 47 runs so far this season. Head coach Ricky Ponting has recently said that Shaw hasn’t been good enough this season and the team is currently better off without him. Sarfaraz has once again failed to carry on his promising domestic form and is running out of time to realize his potential. Marsh and Salt both scored their first half-centuries of the season in the last game against SRH and DC were on course to chase down the score but once again the home middle-order batsmen let the team down. Akshar Patel has scored 211 runs so far this season. He is the only other batsman apart from skipper Warner to make a significant contribution to the team’s batting efforts.

Both Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have picked up seven wickets this season with an economy of seven. Marsh has also taken seven wickets after taking four wickets against SRH. Nortje has taken six wickets and Mukesh Kumar has taken five wickets so far, but he has given more than ten runs in an over. Garg is expected to remain in the side after coming against SRH. Lalit Yadav in place of Ripple Patel and Aman Khan in place of Sarfaraz can be included in the team.

Yash Dhull, Prithvi Shaw, Praveen Dubey, Chetan Sakaria and Khaleel Ahmed are all impact player options for DC.

Here’s the DC Potential XI vs GT:

Openers: David Warner (C), Phil Salt (WK).

Middle Order: Aman Khan, Priyam Garg, Manish Pandey.

All-rounders: Akshar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Mitch Marsh.
