Shastri on hat-trick of sixes, record chase, commentary: How Tim David broke RR | Cricket
When presenter Ravi Shastri asked Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma Regarding the match that took place after the toss, the birthday boy reminded that on this day last year, he had played the same opponents and won. Rohit got the same birthday present in 2023 as well, courtesy of Tim David and his flamboyant innings. But the manner in which Mumbai Indians completed the victory, what Record chase ensues at Wankhede StadiumAdding to the 1000th Occurrence IPL The match, with commentary from the great Shastri, turned out to be a great sight for the spectators as the Australian big-hitting all-rounder snatched victory for MI from the jaws of defeat.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record knock of 124 runs took Rajasthan to 212 for seven. After Rohit’s early dismissal, Ishan Kishan took his chance in the powerplay. However, after Ishan’s dismissal, Mumbai slowed down and eventually reached below-par scores at the halfway stage of their innings.
Suryakumar Yadav went free after scoring 20 runs in the over against impact player Kuldeep Sen and the latter brought up his half-century. The top-order T20I batsman looked in scintillating form on Sunday, hitting his trademark shots over fine leg and looked to single-handedly anchor the chase for Mumbai before an unimaginable fielding effort from Sandeep Sharma.
However, Mumbai Indians were still well in the hunt as Tim David played an unreal knock of 45 not out off just 14 balls, hitting five sixes and two fours. David reduced the required equation to 17 in the last over after hitting Sandeep for a six and a four.
RR captain Sanju Samson bowled the last over to Jason Holder. A target higher than this has been chased in the last over in IPL 2023, whereas a target lower than this has been defended this season. Holder had the experience of bowling the final over in chases, but was out of sorts in the face of some strange hitting from David.
He went for a low full toss on the first ball which was slammed straight for a massive six. Next time, Holder stuck to his plan, but this time bowled it into the hitting arc of David, who made no mistake sending him over mid-wicket for a six. Holder lost his nerve and bowled the same delivery again, and the result was the same – a six over deep square leg. The win was sealed with MI pulling off one of the most successful chases at the Wankhede.
Shastri, who was in the commentary box at the time, could not keep calm on seeing the carnage of three consecutive sixes as he said: “It’s three in a row! It’s all over. It’s history created! 1000th game of IPL”. And this is Mumbai.” Indians have done it. There are incredible views here.”
