‘Sold my captain’: Gavaskar slams DC star after Warner runs out on no-ball Cricket

In match number 44 of IPL 2023, senior pacer Mohammed Shami’s early blast in the powerplay forced Delhi to post a record low score at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Pacer Shami managed to draw first blood on the very first ball of the contest after which Delhi Capitals were reduced to 5-1. Facing GT skipper Pandya in the second over, new batsman Priyam Garg asked for a quick run off the first ball. Warner was left stranded as the DC skipper opted to run towards the striker’s end. Anticipating a run out, spin wizard Rashid Khan kept his cool and raced towards the stumps to dismiss Warner. Interestingly, Warner got his marching orders on the no-ball.
Reflecting on Warner’s unfortunate dismissal in the low-scoring encounter between Gujarat and Delhi, commentator Gavaskar attacked young Garg for selling the DC captain down the river. Where was the run there? There was no run. This is completely Priyam Garg’s fault. Gavaskar said during IPL 2023 match commentary, “He sold his captain down the river.”
After Warner was dismissed cheaply, Garg managed only 10 runs from 14 balls as a Shami-inspired GT reduced DC to 23-5 inside the opening powerplay. Making a comeback for the visitors at the world’s biggest cricket stadium, all-rounder Akshar Patel played a crucial knock of 27 runs while Aman Hakim Khan hit a match-changing half-century.
Middle-order batsmen Ripple Patel (23) and Khan (51) bundled out Warner’s Delhi Capitals for 130-8 in 20 overs. Registering career-best IPL figures in the thrilling encounter, seamer Shami took four wickets and conceded only 11 runs in four overs. Indian pacer Shami removed the likes of Salt, Garg, Riley Rossouw and Manish Pandey to restrict DC to a below-par total in Ahmedabad.
