In the latest episode of RCB Bold Diaries, the right-arm pacer recalled his call to the RCB team which left him ‘starstruck’.
“We were in Kolkata when Mike (Hesson) sir told me that my bowling and fielding is up but I have to improve my batting. So, I told myself I am going to accept it and left it at that. The next day. I came back to the ground and was warming up when Mike sir called me again to talk to me. He congratulated me and told me that I had made it into the team. I was starstruck and rushed to the dressing room. I ran to call my mother,” said Vaishak, recalling the day he was inducted into the RCB squad.
Vijayakumar, who won the hearts of fans with his brilliant performance, said the captain Faf Du PlessisThe advice helped him pick up his first IPL wicket.

He said, “Before the game everyone came and told me not to worry and just enjoy the moment because it was my first game. I bowled my first ball which went for a single and then the second went for a boundary, ” They said.
“Then Faf (du Plessis) came up to me and asked me what I wanted to bowl next, to which I replied that I would bowl hard length. Knuckleball. So, I bowled it and got my first wicket. That moment It was magical.”
Since his debut, Vaishak has displayed his immense talent and expertise on the big stage, taking six wickets in five matches so far in the ongoing edition.
Though the 26-year-old went unsold in the auction, he was aware of RCB’s tradition of selecting players from the intern pool as replacements in the squad.
Determined to earn a spot in the team, Vaishak continued to work hard in the nets and was rewarded for his efforts as he replaced the injured Rajat Patidar in the team.
The player broke down in tears during the episode when he was shown a video of his mother describing how her dream came true after seeing 40,000 people cheering for her son.
Vaishak received his RCB cap from Josh Hazlewood, whom he described as the best bowler across formats.
“A day before the game, Sanjay (Bangar) sir called me in the evening to talk about my cricketing journey and he asked me how would I feel if he told me that I am going to make my debut tomorrow. I did not do.” I didn’t know what to say as we were having a normal conversation I couldn’t sleep the whole night and kept waking up every 5-10 minutes.
Vaishak said, “The moment I received the cap from Josh Hazlewood in the team room was very special to me and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.”
The Bengaluru-born player also opened up about his weight change journey.
Talking about what motivated him to lose weight, Vyasak said, “One of my competitors dropped me while giving me a birthday bomb and made fun of me by saying I was too heavy. On my way back home, those words rang out. Well, I couldn’t sleep that night. The next day I saw myself in the mirror and that’s where my (weight loss) journey began.”
RCB will play an away game in Lucknow on Monday.
