Delhi Capitals lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by nine runs in Match 40 of IPL 2023, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. Chasing a target of 198, DC reached 188/6 in 20 overs despite half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh (63) and Phil Salt (59). For the bowling department of SRH, Mayank Markande was in good form and picked up two wickets.

Initially, SRH posted 197/6 in 20 overs courtesy of a dominant batting display from Abhishek Sharma (67) and Heinrich Klaasen (53*). During this, Marsh took four wickets for Delhi. Apart from the high intensity of the chase, the match also had its fair share of drama, with fans brawling in the stadium.

A video recorded during the DC vs SRH match shows fans exchanging blows, and has sent shockwaves all over social media. Fighting at sporting events is a common occurrence in football matches, but is a new phenomenon in cricket. Here’s the video:

The controversy is also a sign of discontent among fans, with both sides having performed poorly this season. Delhi are currently at the bottom of the ten-team IPL 2023 points table with four points from eight matches with two wins and six losses. Meanwhile, SRH are ninth with six points from eight matches, including three wins and five losses.

David Warner-led DC saw their two-match unbeaten streak come to an end at the hands of SRH in Match 40. Meanwhile, SRH bounced back from a three-match losing streak to beat Delhi Capitals.

The two sides also met in Match 34, where Delhi won by seven runs. Chasing a target of 145, SRH were restricted to 137/6 in 20 overs, with Mayank Agarwal (49) top-scoring. Meanwhile, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje picked up two wickets each for DC. DC had posted 144/9 in 20 overs thanks to good batting from Manish Pandey (34), Akshar Patel (34). For SRH, Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets each for SRH.
