Watch: ‘Not raising finger…’ – MI youth fumes at umpire | Cricket
Mumbai Indians took over Punjab Kings In the double header match on Wednesday in Mohali 2023 Indian Premier League, opting to open the batting with visiting captain Rohit Sharma. MI have had an inconsistent season so far but have a strong chance of finishing in the top-4 with a win against PBKS; A win will take them to 10 points – equal with Rajasthan Royals (fourth), Royal Challengers Bangalore (fifth) and Kings (sixth) – from as many matches.
And MI made a solid start to the game as left-arm pacer Arshad Khan took a wicket early in the innings, dismissing the dangerous Prabhsimran Singh for 9. off stump for an easy four; But when wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma took a catch behind the stumps, the umpire was surprisingly unperturbed.
Realizing that the umpire might not have to lift his finger, Prabhasimran – in a brilliant display of sportsmanship – decided to walk towards the pavilion. Arshad, however, was none too pleased with the umpire’s earlier decision and voiced his disappointment out loud.
Shouting near the stump-mic, Arshad can be heard saying, “finger not lifting, itna big voice aaya.” As soon as Prabhsimran walked off, MI players turned to Arshad to celebrate the swift dismissal.
Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav was not included in the MI playing XI but the star batsman was named as an impact substitute for the game. In contrast, Kagiso Rabada was also not a part of the Punjab Kings XI; However, he was not even named as a replacement for Nathan Ellis. Sikandar Raza was also on the list of PBKS Impact Players.
With a win over MI, the Punjab Kings will move up to the second spot in the table, and go level with the top-ranked Gujarat Titans with 12 points.
