Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take Delhi Capitals to the bottom level (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. The Aiden Markram-led side will be hoping to get back to winning ways after three consecutive defeats in their last three matches.
After losing their opening two games to Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), SRH bounced back in style by winning their next two games against PBKS and KKR. But since then MI have lost to CSK and DC. They lost the reverse fixture to DC in Hyderabad on 24 April as the batsmen piled on the pressure from the DC bowlers and SRH fell short of the target of 145 by 7 runs in the end.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have so far won two and lost five of their seven matches and are second from the bottom in the table. Another loss for DC in the upcoming game would see them slump to the bottom of the table.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen have been impressive, but none of them have contributed consistently so far this season. Brook has scored 163 runs, Rahul Tripathi has scored 160 runs and Markram has scored 124 runs so far.
Mayank Agarwal has also scored 164 runs but at a modest strike rate of 111. To take full advantage of the powerplay, it is most important to score quick runs at the beginning of the innings. After the loss to DC, head coach Brian Lara lamented the intent of his batsmen. Lara felt that the bowlers did brilliantly to restrict DC to a par score and that the batsmen should have chased down the target without any problems, but they were not active or enterprising enough to take advantage of the fielding restrictions in the first few overs. Washington Sundar has been ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury since the loss to DC, with no replacement yet to be named. Sundar was not having a good season before the injury, but was still an important member of the SRH team.
For the bowlers, Mayank Markande has picked up eight wickets at an economy of less than seven so far this season. Marco Johnson and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have taken 6 and Umran Malik and Natarajan have also taken 5-5 wickets. In the last match against DC, the bowlers did well but the batsmen let the team down.
